The Founder
Manager's Message to the late mum....
Mrs. Odette Awada of Blessed Memory
She died in Active Service at “The Awada School” on March 26, 2016.
“May her Soul Rest in Peace.”
MRS. ODETTE P. AWADA, FOUNDER OF THE AWADA SCHOOL IN 1976.
The Awada School exists today because of the vision of Mrs. Odette P. Awada of Blessed Memory, who was born in the year 1940. This inspiring woman was raised and educated in Freetown and started teaching as a professional teacher in the St. Joseph's Convent School, Freetown, her Alma Mater. She moved to Bo and taught at the Queen of the Rosary School (QRS), Bo, where she taught English, French, and Latin. She was later appointed as the Deputy Head Teacher at the Lady Dunham Nursery School, Coronation Field, where she had the inspiration of opening her own pre-school.
In 1976, she leaped and started her school, in her home at no 7 Kissy Town Road, with just 7 kids. The School was named “The OPA Preparatory School, (The Odette Paulette Awada Preparatory School).
Mrs. Awada managed the Awada School for over 40 years, making name for the school in the area of Academic Excellence as one of the Best Schools becoming easily a “Grade A School” that makes outstanding and leading grades in the National Primary School Examinations (NPSE), Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE), and with promises to make a break through with good grades in the West African Senior Schools Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) based on its already solid foundation. If maintained, it is a challenge to the successor who is equally determined to maintain the standard of the Awada School in the image of her late mother, Mrs. Odette P. Awada, who was visionary, hardworking, loving, kindly disposed, and fanatically dedicated and committed to the progress of the Awada School over the years. She was at The Awada School in her dreams and even more so when awake.
In the years 2013- 2015, age, ill-health, and overwork became a menace to her. She needed a vacation, but she did not ask for one because she was religiously devoted to the Awada school, the Pupils, and the Future of Education in Sierra Leone. Private schools for money-making were not her concern. She wanted to leave behind her a good name, to lay a firm, solid foundation on which the basic quality general Education for Sierra Leone could be built. This was her vision, her dream, and her expectation and wish for Sierra Leone. She was result-oriented in the end.
Her health finally gave way, and on March 26th, 2016, she was called home to Rest, the Rest which she needed after leaving behind a heritage of ideas, a legacy of pride, all physically visible and demonstrated in the Awada School today.
She died at the age of 76 years, an advanced age hardly noticeable on her physical appearance. No wrinkles, but for her grey hair, which she deliberately never tampered with by way of makeup. She was naturally beautiful, which most people admired.
Now she has left the scene for her everlasting Resting place. “May Her Soul Rest in Peace”.
Mrs. Odette P. Awada is survived by her only child, a daughter, Mrs. Chadia Awada Talib, who is the next of Kin and now the Proprietress/Manager of The Awada School. She is equally committed and expected to face the odds and challenges of managing The Awada School.
In the spirit of great trust and pride in the Awada School for what it stands for, as briefly outlined in this Prospectus, we join the New Proprietress/ Manager, the Staff, and the Management Board of the Awada School to welcome back the continuing pupils and more especially the newcomers (The New Admissions) to the School this year. We expect you all to uphold and promote the tenets outlined in this Prospectus, for your guidance now and in the future. Remain obedient.
We remain optimistic that you`ll be provided the best Education here at The Awada School. Once more, welcome!!
Submitted in good faith by The Awada School Administration and Management.
